As you read The Great Gatsby, in the beginning your imagination runs wild with how Gatsby obtained so much money and why he is there. But as Nick Carraway becomes closer with Jay Gatsby, you come to find out that the real reason he has the money and is living in this mansion is so he can be around the one he loves, Daisy. Gatsby watches Daisys house from across the lake where he can see the green light of the dock turn on and off. As a keen observer Nick Carraway comes to the conclusion that Gatsby's life after his death remained one that was filled with fixed eyes from a far, never really achieving what those eyes desired. Like Doctor T.J. Eckleburg's eyes they remained fixed, and I immediately thought of that as I saw Georgia O'keeffes painting on the bottom, which shows what looks like an eye in place of the sun. Both paintings show the distance of the lake that separated Gatsbys loneliness not being with Daisy, and I think both show the beauty yet loneliness of the distance that made Gatsby so alone at the end.
